PROJECT CONSTELLATION / THE OBSERVED SKY

Observed CORONA BOREALIS sky.

This is real near-infrared survey imagery from 2MASS. Its J, H and Ks measurements are shown in false color and registered to the same north-up, east-left projection as our constellation figure. It is an archival survey view, not a real-time sky camera.

Real stars. A considered frame.

The selected constellation stars keep their catalog positions. Connecting lines and orbital accents are design guides. The survey background and diagram share a fixed registration; the light effect changes brightness only.

Source and projection details

Scientific reprojection of observed J/H/Ks data. K is mapped to red, H to green and J to blue by the survey service. A native 7680 × 7680 output is assembled from sixteen adjacent, equally scaled survey cutouts. Web copies are reduced from that master; no smaller picture is enlarged to create the 8K view.
